How to Bid and Pay for Items you won

After you have created and validated your account you may start bidding and / or buying items.  Items are available for sale in two formats: Fixed Price or Auction.  Auctions can have a Buy It Now, a Reserve Price, or both.

IMPORTANT: Before you bid or buy anything be sure to read the seller's item description for important information regarding picking up items, payment, and shipping options, etc.  If you are unable to pick up an item or pay for an item as per the seller's requirements then DO NOT BID OR BUY.  Anyone who does not follow through with a sale through to completion of an item will be permanently removed from Oswego NY Sells.

Items listed as an Auction will be sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction.  Items listed via the auction method will be available up to 10 days as determined by the seller.  If you are the winning bidder you will receive notification via email and / or you can log into your Oswego NY Sells account and click on "Auctions you won".  Here you will find all of the auctions that you were the winning bidder on.  If the item has not been paid for a Paypal logo will appear with the item, click on the Paypal logo and pay for your item.  If the seller indicated in their item description that they will accept cash payments for their items then pick up and pay for your item as determined by the seller in the items description. NOTE: It is suggested that you ask the seller to provide you with a written receipt for items you pay for with cash when you meet to pick your items up.  Also, if paying for an item with cash remind the seller to mark the item as paid on their account.  Items are marked paid automatically when paid for with Paypal.

Items listed as an Auction with a Buy It Now allows a user to buy the item without waiting for the auction to end.  BUT, once someone places a bid via the auction method the Buy It Now features is disabled and the item can no longer be purchased outright, it must be sold via the auction.  The item will be listed via Buy It Now or via Auction for the number of days determined by the seller up to 10 days.  To purchase an item via a Buy It Now click on the Paypal logo to the left of the screen and follow through with payment via Paypal with the Paypal payment window that opens.  If the seller accepts cash payments for their item you must contact the seller using the contact form on the item page, letting the seller know that you want to purchase the item and pay for it in cash.  The seller will receive an email with your message.  The seller will have to delete the item manually so no one else purchases the item.  By paying in cash for Buy It Now items you risk losing the item to another buyer who chooses to pay for the item via Paypal.  Paypal payments trump cash payment buyers when a listing is still available on Oswego NY Sells for sale.  Pick up your item as indicated by the seller in the items description. NOTE: It is suggested that you ask the seller to provide you with a written receipt for items you pay for with cash when you meet to pick your items up.  Also, if paying for an item with cash remind the seller to mark the item as paid on their account.  Items are marked paid automatically when paid for with Paypal.

Items listed as an Auction with a Reserve price means that the seller lists an item with a starting bid but also has a reserve price that is not disclosed to bidder's.  This is a minimum amount that the seller is willing to sell the item for.  A bidder is not required to purchase an item if the Reserve price is not met.  If you place a bid, and the reserve price is not met, the system generates a message letting you know the reserve has not been met.  If your bid has met the seller's reserve price you will see a message that indicates the Reserve Price was met and at that point the item will be sold to the highest bidder.  At the conclusion of a Reserve price listing, if the reserve price is not met, then do nothing.  If the reserve price was met and you are the highest bidder then follow through with the Paypal payment or by cash as per the seller's instructions. NOTE: It is suggested that you ask the seller to provide you with a written receipt for items you pay for with cash when you meet to pick your items up.  Also, if paying for an item with cash remind the seller to mark the item as paid on their account.  Items are marked paid automatically when paid for with Paypal.

Items listed as an Auction with a Buy It Now and Reserve Price means that you may purchase the item immediately for the Buy It Now Price but once a bid is placed via the auction method, the Buy It Now option is disabled.  No matter what the Reserve Price is, the Buy It Now option trumps the Reserve Price and the item can be purchased immediately for the Buy It Now price.  Once a bid is placed via the auction method the item now will be auctioned. If the reserve price was met and you are the highest bidder then follow through with the Paypal payment or cash payment if accepted by the seller.  NOTE: It is suggested that you ask the seller to provide you with a written receipt for items you pay for with cash when you meet to pick your items up.  Also, if paying for an item with cash remind the seller to mark the item as paid on their account.  Items are marked paid automatically when paid for with Paypal.

Auto Bidding

Auto Bid-allows a bidder to put in the maximum amount they are willing to pay for an item and the system will bid incrementally for the bidder if other bids come in.  The system will only bid up to the amount the bidder puts in and not beyond that amount.  Auto Bid is a helpful function for people who do not want to sit in front of their computer and keep bidding themselves and do not want to miss out on an item if they are unavailable to bid. They can just put in their highest amount and forget about it. NOTE: Once you place a bid in Auto Bid it cannot be changed or retracted.  Also, you cannot raise your bid or bid again until you have been outbid so it is important that you bid the amount you desire to bid unless you are going to sit and watch the item as it is ending and place more bids if you are outdbid on.  Below are the bid increments that will be bid automatically by the system.

bid increments

Bidder's will receive email notifications when they have been outbid and when they have won an item.

To view all of your items won / lost, etc., just log into your Oswego NY Sells account and you can view "Winning bids on open auctions" which shows you auctions that have not yet closed and you are still winning.  "Outbid on open auctions" shows auctions that are not yet closed that you are currently outbid on.  And "Auctions you won" shows you all of the auctions that you have won and provides you with a Paypal button to pay for your items.

Make sure you pay for your items in a timely manner and pick up your items to remain in good standing on Oswego NY Sells.
